SR Residence

Residence

Set against the sweeping backdrop of the Aegean Sea, this summer residence is conceived as an architectural continuation of the Cycladic landscape. The villa blends seamlessly into its natural setting through a careful interplay of rising lines, cubic geometries, and tactile, natural materials. Its composition negotiates the balance between tradition and modernity, grounding contemporary minimalism within the enduring vernacular of the islands.

The design is guided by the morphology of the site. Courtyards are carved into the volume, generating exterior spaces that respond to orientation, capture framed views, and buffer prevailing winds. The spatial organization unfolds across a series of double-aspect interior spaces, where light and shadow define the experience throughout the day. Volumes are lifted and recessed to create a rhythmic dialogue with the topography, echoing the scale and form of the surrounding architectural context.

Soft elements—pergolas, textured stone, and limewash surfaces—introduce warmth and comfort, providing shaded transitions between interior and exterior life. Landscaping and green roofs extend the building’s presence into the terrain, blurring the threshold between architecture and nature while maintaining accessibility and functionality.
The villa’s interior embraces the ethos of slow island living. Its modern lines accommodate a relaxed, contemplative rhythm rooted in the Greek summer. The living spaces are oriented to capture both sunrise and sunset, as well as uninterrupted views of the Aegean horizon. A tiered spatial arrangement offers subtle separation between rooms while preserving a sense of visual continuity across the plan. Two courtyards, positioned to suit different times of day, foster a fluid relationship between solitude and togetherness—inviting family and friends to inhabit the house in a natural way.
