Santorini Villas

Villas

Opsis Group was commissioned to carry out a Feasibility Study for the development of 15,000 m² of land arranged around a historic Church and traditional resort on the Volcanic Island of Santorini, Greece. The existing resort was organically developed through the reuse of agricultural caves into traditional houses in the unique Cycladic Style. This evolved around a well preserved 15th century Church. The vision of the client is to develop the adjoining land to offer private villas, around a complex of communal facilities.

Opsis was then appointed to design the three first villas in one of the adjacent plots. These Villas are thoughtfully designed to reflect traditional architectural principles while seamlessly integrating with their natural surroundings. The composition is defined by two distinct volumes: a vaulted structure housing the master suite and a second volume accommodating the living areas and amenities. These volumes are connected by a bridge-like transitional space, acting as a circulation node, subtlety distinct from the primary spaces through the use of alternative materials.

This bridging element not only facilitates circulation but also serves as the main entrance to the villa and a gateway to the compound’s outdoor areas. The design places equal emphasis on outdoor living, incorporating terraces, panoramic views. A careful selection of textures and materials ensures a harmonious relationship between the built environment and the local architectural character.
